Alice Fay (Hill) Dirks
Alice Fay (Hill) Dirks, 80, of Hibbing, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, in Guardian Angels Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. Alice was born February 5, 1938 to Agnes (Hutchinson) and Robert Hill in Miller, SD. She graduated from Wadena High School in May 1956. She joined the Air Force June 1957 where she met and married her children’s father in Colorado on January 2, 1960. Alice served our country for nine years, traveling where the Air Force led including; Texas, Colorado, Italy, California, Wyoming and Oklahoma eventually settling in Hibbing, MN. As a single mother Alice selflessly raised three children while she worked full time as an information specialist for St. Louis County until retiring in 2005. After retirement, Alice was most content at home working in her yard and helping her neighbors. She was a dog lover and had many over her lifetime, from puppies to rescues, and was always available to baby sit her “grand dogs.” Even as her memory failed her she wished for home and her dog and worried about her children above herself.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Dirks, Lynda (Tony) Spinelli and Jay (Yeng) Dirks; sisters, Sally Burgau and Barbara Neuschwander.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Eugene and Duane Hill.
Honoring her wishes no funeral service will be held. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Range Regional Animal Rescue or the Mesaba Humane Society. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
