Alice M. Johnson

Alice M. Johnson, 85, Cloverdale, passed away peacefully while holding her son’s hand on Sunday, April 24, 2016, in his home, where she had lived for the past 2 ½ years.  She was born at home on January 25, 1931, in Whipholt, MN to Denzil and Ann Countryman.  Alice was united in marriage to Jack L. Johnson on Dec. 13, 1947, and they made their home in Cloverdale.  She attended the Cloverdale Mennonite Church for many years and enjoyed the ladies sewing circle there.  She also enjoyed her weekly bus trips with friends into Grand Rapids for shopping.

She is survived by three children: Teresa “Terri” (Jim) Rathbun of Pinetop, AZ, Jerry Johnson of Nashwauk, MN, and Sue Johnson of Pinetop, AZ; seven grandchildren:  James (Holly) Gilbertson, Steven Gilbertson, Tisha Robertson, Renee (Corey) Twilligear, April and Joshua Johnson, and Shannon Knaus; by 10 great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Ruth Larson of Bemidji and Bette Edwards of Omaha, NE; and by numerous nieces and nephews.  Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 2013; by her parents; and by sisters Nina Underwood and Nancy Wilcowski.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Cloverdale Community Center, Cloverdale, from 11 AM until the 12 Noon funeral service.   Directions to Cloverdale Community Center from Nashwauk: 4 miles north on State HWY 65 to County Road 8.  Turn left (West) on Co.
