Alverna M. Wirkus, 79, Hibbing, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her home. She was born in Bemidji, MN, to Joseph and Mabel Thuney on May 19, 1933 and had lived in rural Hibbing before moving to town. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Ambrose who died in 1989. She was known as an avid cleaner and enjoyed her family.
Alverna will be missed by her daughters, Deann (David) Koemptgen, Chisholm, and Deborah (Alec) Newbauer, Hibbing, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Vernon Thuney and sister, Deloris Gustafson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the Chisholm Assembly of God Church with the Rev. John Koppel officiating. Visitation will be at Church on Thursday beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing.
