Andrew D. "Andy" Selvo

Andrew (“Andy”) D. Selvo, 84, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born February 27, 1940, to Andrew and Louise (Maracchini) Selvo in Hibbing. Andy graduated from Hibbing High School and earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota. He was later employed by the State of Minnesota in a management consultant role with the Department of Rehabilitation Services. He married the love of his life, Judy Kilen, on June 10, 1961, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing, and together, they raised their three daughters in Hibbing. Andy belonged to various boards and organizations throughout his life. He served on the Blessed Sacrament Church finance council, the board of directors for CWDC Industries, and was a past chairman of the board for Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

Andy enjoyed duck and deer hunting, fishing, spending time at the family cabin on Big Sturgeon, and taking road trips with Judy. Andy and Judy loved visiting presidential libraries around the country, as well as playing cards with many of their lifelong friends. Most of all, Andy loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their many events. To them, he will always be their #1 fan. Andy also was very proud of his hometown of Hibbing and its history and historic locations, especially the Hibbing High School, Blessed Sacrament Church, and the Hibbing Memorial Building. 

Andy is survived by his children, Gina (David) Mickelson, Hibbing, Carolyn (Tony) Carpenter, Hibbing, and Susan (Brent) Eilefson, Andover, MN; his seven beloved grandchildren, Emily (Drew) McMillan, Minneapolis, MN, Andrew Mickelson, Chicago, IL, Claire Carpenter, Colorado Springs, CO, Katie (Adam) Rude, Duluth, MN, Kilen (Anja) Eilefson, New Brighton, MN, Max Eilefson, Andover, MN, and Henry Eilefson, also of Andover, MN; his brother-in-law, Richard Kilen, Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews. 

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Louise Selvo; wife, Judy Selvo (2015); in-laws Cole and Rose Kilen; and his brother-in-law, Joe Kilen.

Funeral services for Andy will be at 11:30 am, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Daniel Weiske will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:30 am funeral Mass at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Andy’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Guardian Angels for the compassionate and excellent care he received, providing not only him, but also the entire family, with comfort and support during his stay. Memorials are preferred to the Assumption Catholic School Fund or to Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
