Angela W. Godec, 101, of Hibbing and formerly of Ely, passed away on Tuesday, April

3, 2018, surrounded by family, at the Fairview Range Medical Center, Hibbing.  She was born October 20,1916 in Aurora, MN, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Rangus)  Jasper. The family moved to Ely when she was nine and lived her entire life there.  Angela married Joseph "Phil" Godec in 1938 and they celebrated 61 anniversaries before his death.  Angela was a homemaker and member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ely and was also a 25-year member of the Ely Slovenian Catholic Church Choir who recorded two records.  Angela was President and advisor of the Ely Business Women's Club, a member of the Ely Business & Professional Women's Organization, Graduate Regent of the Women of the Moose #339 and active member of the Red Cross Volunteers. She held the office of the Vice President of the Slovene National Benefit Society and was a 79-year member of the Slovenian Women's Union and had been selected as Mother of the Year.  Angela was a member of the Dawn Club and the cover girl of their official coast to coast publication," Zadja" for which she wrote for five years. She was very proud to have been a member of the original Northland Cadets Marching Team from its inception until its demise holding the position of Staff Sergeant.  She was a member of the Vermillion Range Settlers Association, Senior Citizen's Association, Ely Dance Club, The Wilderness Dance Club, and the Range Polka Club, SNPJ, NABA Association. Angela and her husband, Joseph, were owners of Phil’s Cap & Tap Tavern in Ely for 22 years.  Angela was patient #1 at the Ely Bloomenson Hospital in Ely, Minnesota, which she was always very proud of.

She is survived by her three children , Phyllis (Robert) Petrick, Hibbing, MN, Frederick (Charlotte) Godec, Hibbing, MN, and Judith (Larry) Ravlin, Council Bluffs, IA, 11 grandchildren, Joseph (Janet) Petrick, Craig (Amy) Petrick, Janette Godec, Annette (Tim) Maki, Joseph Godec, Marie (Kurt) Mayer, Melissa (Brian) Freeberg, Renae (Wade) Thompson, Philip (Marla) Ravlin, Connie (Larry) Lauvetz, Nicole (Mike) Browning,  22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, Benjamin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph “Phil” Godec, her brother, Frank Jasper, and her five sisters, Mary, Frances , Molly, Amy and infant Sophie Jasper. Angie’s family wishes to thank Dr. Jan Baldwin and the staff at Guardian Angels for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hibbing.  Visitation will be in the church, Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services.  Burial will be in the Ely Cemetery at a later date.
