Arlene M. Kotonias

Arlene Mae (Kangas) Kotonias passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025 at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her husband Sam and her son Jim. She is survived by her children Kathy (Matt) Senich, Connie (Bruce Norman) Kotonias, Kay (Rick) Guidarelli, Carla (Scott) Sosalla and Bill (Kendra) Kotonias, 13 Grandchildren John (Courtney) Senich, Micky Kotonias, Toni (Matt Ellickson) Guidarelli, Samantha (Josh) Grant, Will (Mica Morgan) Senich, Rocco (Kelsey) Guidarelli, Nick (Lindsay) Sosalla, Katie (Zach Prebeck) Senich, Lexi (Luke Renter) Sosalla, Sam Kotonias, Sydney Kotonias, Sophia Kotonias, Siri Kotonias and 13 Great Grandchildren.

Arlene was born and raised in Hibbing. She was an only child who was loved and spoiled by her extended family spending time at their lake homes and Finnish saunas. She met Sam on a blind date upon his return from the Korean War. They were married and had six children after which she completed her teaching degree. She spent her entire teaching career at the Cobb Cook School as a Second Grade teacher. Arlene was an active member with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Family and friends were a big part of Arlene's life. She cherished her lifelong girlfriends nicknamed "The Clowns". She and Sam enjoyed time at the cabin, going to local sporting events and their group at the Elks Club. After retirement Arlene found her love of travel with her Ladies Only travel group and special travel companions. Among the amazing trips were traveling to Finland and Greece to meet extended family.

Arlene loved her family, friends and her home town of Hibbing. The family extends a special thank you to Shannon and LeLyn Lustila for their love and special care during Arlene's last years.

Funeral services will be held at Dougherty's Funeral Home at 12:00 on March 23, 2025. Visitation will be from 11:00 - 12:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations are preferred to the Hibbing Historical Society or charity of your choice.
