Arthur G. “Red” Haverkamp
Arthur G. Haverkamp, 86, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born on November 8, 1927, to Herman and Mary (Clucky) Haverkamp in Ogema, MN. Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. In 1948, he moved from Detroit Lakes, MN to Hibbing. He entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Dorothy Mae Olson on April 3, 1948 in Hibbing. Arthur was employed with Shell Tire Service retiring in 1989 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing. His pastimes included craftwork, hunting, and fishing, he loved the outdoors. Arthur also had a hobby farm until 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Haverkamp, daughter, Fayette (Gerald) Gibson, and son, Philip Haverkamp, all of Hibbing, MN; one sister, Rita Brekke, Fergus Falls, MN; three grandchildren, Crystal Dombrovske, Travis (Nikki Rose) Gibson, and Donovan Gibson; and 4 great-grandchildren, Fanci Williams, Sir Williams, Ceelie Gibson, and Channer Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Melverna Pfeiffer, Marie Heinen, Mildred Brant, Evelyn DeVoe, Joyann Jerdee, and Ora Mae Peterson; five brothers: Ivan, Wilbert, Harlo, Irvin, and Lawrence Haverkamp.
Funeral services for Arthur will be held at 11:00am, Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Brian Lederer will celebrate The Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
