Arvid M. Nasi, Jr.
Arvid M. Nasi, Jr. passed away on September 20, 2014 surrounded by his family. A native of Hibbing, he was born on February 8, 1926, the son of Arvid and Helen (England) Nasi.
In 1942, Arvid entered the Armed Forces. From 1942 – 1945 he served as a bombardier and gunner. He held the rank of Aviation Ordnance man and most of this duty was spent in the Pacific. Arvid received the Presidential Unit Citation, various campaign ribbons of the South Pacific, the Air Medal and The Distinguished Flying Cross. After being given an honorable discharge, he resumed his education but the Korean Conflict brought him back into uniform. Arvid served 16 months in this crisis. His unit, the VP812, was activated in Minneapolis and served in Alaska. Arvid was excited in June of this year to attend a reunion of his Korean unit members in Coon Rapids.
After the war, Arvid graduated from the University of Minnesota and in 1955, graduated from St. Paul College of Law and he started to practice law. In 1965, he was appointed to serve a Municipal Judge of Hibbing.
Arvid was a member of the MN State Bar Assoc, the Range Bar Assoc, and American Judicature Society. He also belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Hibbing Lodge #1022, Loyal Order of Moose, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8510, and the unforgettable H.A.’s Club and the Potato Lake Hunting Shack.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor (Valeri) and 6 children: Kris (Bob) Clover, Becky (Charlie) Radika, Camille Nasi, all of Hibbing; Patrick (Natalie) Nasi, O’Fallon MO, Brian (Nancy) Nasi, Mpls MN, and Andrea (Tom) Sertich of Chisholm; 12 grandchildren, Jesse (Donna) Radika, Sara (Terry Koski) Radika, Diana (Eric Walley) Johnson, Nicole (Ben Herseth) Clover, Casey Clover, Nick, Carly and Alex Sertich, Lyn, Reed, Emmy and Genaz Nasi and 4 great grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Lind, Cassidy Koski and Elias Herseth. He is also survived by a sister Ardyce Gauthier of Arkansas.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Arvid Sr and Helen Nasi.
