Arvid John Sundquist
Arvid John Sundquist, 80, Pengilly, formerly of Keewatin, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, of complications from a recent diagnosis of esophageal cancer. Arvid was born in Bigfork, MN to Arvid, Sr. and Estella (Decker) Sundquist on June 5, 1933.
Arvid graduated from Bigfork High School in 1952. Arvid worked at National Steel, and retired as a welder in 1991, after 39 years of service. He spent many years as a Union Officer for Local 2660 in Keewatin. Arvid was also a member of the Keewatin Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. In 1981, he and his wife Patricia purchased Indian Point Resort, on Swan Lake. Arvid was a man of many talents. He completed and moved into the log home of his dreams in 2010, and his most recent 'project' was finishing his garage this past fall. Arvid loved cooking for everyone, hosting his friends and family, and was always on the go, running into acquaintances wherever he went. He was well-known for his humor, and his unique way of saying things.
He will be greatly missed by his children: Sabrina (Gary) Gunter, Pengilly; Linda (Kerry) Apel, Keewatin; Susan (Dale Sr.) Thronson, Keewatin; Arthur “Art” Sundquist, Pengilly; Eric Sundquist, Keewatin; David (Julie) Sundquist and Jeffrey (Amy) Sundquist, both of Pengilly. His siblings include Evelyn Hoaglun, Hibbing; Mildred Marks, Bigfork; and Mercedes Campbell, Chisholm. He was Grandpa to Kerrie, Amanda, Jessica, Tiffani, Kalee, Zakrey, Jacob, Sara, Tad, Derek, Morgan, Jody,
John Jr., Justin, Abby, Kiersten, Kristi, Eric Jr., and Dylan. He also had 21 great-grandchildren, and was referred to as 'Junior' by many of his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arvid was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; their son, John; his in-laws, Ruth and Patsy Emanuel; great-granddaughter, Cherub Hill; and his siblings: Leona Atkinson, Ellsworth “Bud” Plaisted, and Eldridge “Ted” Plaisted.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Lone Pine Town Hall, 15151 Town Hall Rd., in Pengilly, MN for a 1:00 pm. service, with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Hoffman officiating. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home.
