Augusta Bernard, 88 of Iron, MN died July 1, 2014, at the Fairview University Medical Center Mesabi in Hibbing, MN.
Augusta went to join the love of her life Kenny already with the lord.  They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. She was born on March 4, 1926 to Mike and Margaret Schaefbauer of Herreid, South Dakota.  Augusta came from a family of 11 children and proceeded to have 12 of her own.  Mother kept busy raising a family on the farm and helping make a comfortable life for her family and anyone else that needed a helping hand. Mom’s philosophy was “Charity starts at home.” The coffee pot was always on, neighbors, friends and family were in abundance at all times.  There was always an extra place at the table, or a bed if someone needed.  Mom truly enjoyed life, she worked hard but knew when to have a good time as well.
She is survived by her children, Ann (August) Stoffel, Esko, MN., Joe (Judy) Bernard, Mt. Iron, MN., Rita (Rick) Wilcox, South St. Paul, MN., Debby (Terry Ellich) Thompson, Hibbing, MN., Janet (Gary) Salin, Buhl, MN., Linda (Brad) Peterson, Hibbing, Sandy (Mike) Marsh, Grand Rapids, MN., Teresa (Mark) Allen, Becker, MN., Roger (Sally) Bernard, Iron, MN., Tony (Kathy) Bernard, Iron, MN., Karen (Mike Czernewski) Sutherby, Eveleth, MN, 30 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister Rita (Archie) Mitzel of Herrid SD; brothers: Mike (Marcella)  Schaefbauer of Bella Vista AK, Louis Schaefbauer of Hibbing, Richard Schaefbauer of Virginia and Numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, daughter, Bernice in 1977.
Funeral services for Augusta will be held at 1:00pm, Friday July 11, 2014 at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth, MN.  The Rev. Fr. Flynn will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be held from noon until the funeral Mass at the church on Friday.  Internment will be in the Eveleth Cemetery following the services.  Honorary pallbearers are: Greg Bernard, Kenny Raabe, Paul Thompson, Wayne Peterson, Chris Peterson, Dustin Peterson, Jesse Peterson, Jason Marsh, Jeremy Marsh, Josh Bernard, James Bernard, Jonathan Bernard, Blake Allen, Tom Bernard and Jake Bernard all grandsons. Please join us for a celebration of Augusta’s life. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
