Aune S. Mihelich

Aune S. Mihelich, 93, a ninety year resident of Hibbing, and recently of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.  She was born in Hibbing on Sept. 29, 1922, to Matti and Lydia (Taipale) Riuttanen.  Aune graduated from Hibbing High School in 1940.  She was united in marriage to Rudy Mihelich on Sept. 28, 1940, and they made their home in the Maple Hill area of Hibbing.  Aune was a homemaker who also worked for many years as a sales clerk at Ace Hardware in Hibbing.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Maple Hill Community Club.  Aune enjoyed preparing food for family and friends and she truly enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by three children:  Kenneth (Phyllis) Mihelich of Maplewood, MN, Anita (Jim Daniels) Forte of Hibbing, and Diana (Dennis) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren: Robert (Heidi) Forte, TJ Forte, Scott Mihelich, Cindi (Bryan) Biever, Jason (Mindy) Daniels, Jessica (Jeremy) Janski, and Knol and Erin Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren: Gregory and Selena Biever, Megan and Lil’ Rudy Mihelich, Kaitlyn and Daniel Forte, Jaxon, Echo, and Wesley Janski, A.J. and Rocco Daniels, and Phoebe Tate Johnson; a brother-in-law, Milan Mihelich of Bemidji; two sisters-in-law, Mary Wherland of Hibbing and Florence Menard of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, on Dec. 23, 2009; by her parents; by a brother, Reino Riuttanen in 1939; and by a son-in-law, Jerry Forte.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 28, 2015, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hibbing, from 11 AM until the 12 Noon funeral service.  The Rev.
