Bennett J. “Ben” Huszak
Bennett J. “Ben” Huszak, 90, lifelong Hibbing resident, died Friday June 28, 2013, at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl. He and his twin sister, Bernyce, were the youngest of eight children born to Hibbing pioneers Alex and Julia Huszak, who were Hungarian immigrants. Ben graduated from Hibbing High School and served in the US Army during World War II. He worked for US Steel for 40 years, mostly as a train operator at the Sherman Mine. While working as a security guard, he was proud to have been the last man on the property when the Sherman was shut down. Ben was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Hibbing Bowling League. He enjoyed tending his garden which was among the best in Hibbing. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Ben is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Visitation will be Friday July 5, 2013, at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, for one hour prior to the 11 AM funeral service. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 8510 Color Guard. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
