Bernard P. “Ben” Baratto
Bernard P. “Ben” Baratto, 84, longtime Hill City resident, died Monday, December 26, 2016 at Essentia St. Mary’s in Duluth. He was born in Hibbing to Pasquale and Biondina (Abate) Baratto on June 16, 1932. Mr. Baratto started teaching in Hill City in 1960. He was a U S Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a remarkable man having touched countless lives both in and out of the classroom and will be missed by everyone. Bernard loved his family very much and enjoyed doing anything with them especially cooking.
He is survived by his wife Audrey, sons, James Patrick (DeAnna) Baratto, Breezy Point, Minn., Jerald Bernard (Lauri) Baratto, Crosslake, Minn., siblings, Rose (Chuck) Schwankle, Overland Park, Kan., Eugene (Angela) Baratto, Summerset, Wis., and Lucia (Mike) Shoberg, Duluth, 5 grandchildren, Renae, Jeanna, Katherine, Ben and Anna, 10 great grandchildren, Sydney, Wyatt, Huck, Hudson, Vaida, Adair, Vince, Reagan, Charlee, and Bennett. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Suzanne.
As per Bernard’s wishes no funeral or memorial services will be held. He will be buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
