Bernard E. Warmuth
Bernard Warmuth, 82, Hibbing died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born on December 4, 1931 to Raymond and Barbara (Krier) Warmuth in Hibbing. In his earlier years, Bernard lived in Hibbing and attended Hibbing Schools. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country for four years during the Korean War. While he was in the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Sheila McIlvoy and they made their home in El Cajon, CA. Bernard was employed with North Island Naval Air Station as an aircraft mechanic, retiring in 1987, after nearly 40 years of service. He then moved back to Hibbing in 1988, where he was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, a life member of American Legion Post 452, VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing, and the NRA. Bernard was a man who could never sit still; he had to be doing something all of the time. He always kept things neat and tidy. His pastimes were countless: he was an amazing wood carver, he loved making all different kinds of homemade wine, harvesting wild rice, and he enjoyed canning as well. Bernard would travel a great deal with his wife in the “RV”, and he loved going camping with his family. He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sheila Warmuth, of Hibbing; his children: Bruce (Pier) Warmuth, Newport Beach, CA, Deborah Gustafson, Battle Mountain, NV, Dale (Denise) Warmuth, Spring Creek, NV, and Toni Warmuth, El Cajon, CA; siblings, Raymond (Mavis) Warmuth, Loretta Poundstone, and David (Carolyn) Warmuth, all of Hibbing, Carolyn Warmuth, North Carolina, Richard (Barbara) Warmuth, Grand Junction, CO, James Warmuth, Pengilly, MN, and Connie Carter, Minneapolis, MN; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Douglas (Beth) McIlvoy, Redmond, OR, sister-in-law, Dolores Warmuth, Hibbing; many nieces and nephews; also Peggy (Dennis) Johnson, and Jim, Lisa, Mathew, and Tyler Eliason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barbara “Boots” Labadie, and Phyllis Minerich; and two brothers, Leo and Donald Warmuth.
A celebration of Bernard’s life will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 2 PM at Checco’s Tavern in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WoundedWarriorProject.org/donate, “on his behalf.”
