            Bernice M. Simonson, 93, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Sunday, November 26, 2023 at her home in Hibbing.  She was born February 17, 1930 to Lee and Doris Burdick in Wilton, MN.  A homemaker by trade, Bernice took great pride in raising and keeping tabs on her family.  She was very helpful and always made herself available to them.  Bernice did work before getting married as a telephone operator and later with Manney’s Shopper alongside her three sisters into her 70’s.  She had many pets throughout her lifetime and loved her little dog Mya of late.  Some of her favorite pastimes included annual fish fries, and getting her family together for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter, crocheting, sewing, and baking.  She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Hibbing.

            She is survived by her six children, William “Bill” Simonson Jr., Hibbing, MN, Linda (Michael) Lucente, Corpus Christi, TX, David (Julie) Simonson Sr., Laura (Ron) Hendrickson, Tom (Lill) Simonson Sr., all of Hibbing, MN, and Carolyn Israelson, Pengilly, MN, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

            She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Simonson in 2001, husband, William Simonson Sr., in 1994, parents, and siblings, infant brother, Clifford Burdick, Betty Chandler, Fran Johnson, Peggy Smith, and Clarence Burdick, and granddaughter Michele Lucente.

            A celebration of Bernice’s life will be from 3-8pm, Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Memorial Building Hall in Hibbing.  Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing at a later date.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
