Betty M. Borbiconi
Betty M. Borbiconi, 85, Hibbing, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born in Chisholm on June 27, 1930, to Frank and Darinka (Pakiz) Furlan. Betty graduated from Chisholm High School in 1948, where she was voted homecoming queen and salutatorian of her graduating class. She was also chosen to represent Chisholm High School at Girls State and was a member of the National Honor Society. Betty went on to graduate from Hibbing General Hospital’s nursing program in 1951, and she was chosen to receive the “most representative nurse” award. She worked at Adams Clinic in Hibbing for 20 years and at Hibbing General Hospital for 20 years, where she was a nursing supervisor for both facilities. Betty was a founding member of the hospice program in Hibbing and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and VFW Post 8510 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo and fishing.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Borbiconi, Hibbing; a daughter, Geri Borbiconi, of Hibbing; a son, Thomas “Kip” (Cheryl) Borbiconi, of Cherry; two grandchildren, Teresa Twardowski of Hibbing and Tracey (Marc) Peacock of Barbados; four great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Mariah, Morgan, and Sydney; a great-great-grandson, Mason; a brother-in-law, Ron Borbiconi of Hibbing; and by a niece and two nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Margaret Furlan; and by a brother, Frank Furlan.
Visitation will be 5—7 PM Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing and on Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral Mass. The Rev. Fr. Nick Nelson will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
