Betty Murphy
Betty Murphy, 91, Hibbing, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday, May 24, 2014. She was born on April 23, 1923, in Hibbing to Irving and Olive Sullivan. Betty had worked for a variety of area business, including Montgomery Wards, Hibbing General Hospital, Social Security Administration, and The Pizza Mill. She also had worked as a hostess at the Kahler Hotel restaurant and owned and operated her own antique shop at Remember When Antiques. Betty volunteered her time at the hospital, gave tours at Hibbing High School and at Ironworld Discovery Center in Chisholm. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She is survived by four children: Bruce R. (Helen) Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela J. Brandt of Hibbing, Mark S. Smith of Bedford, TX, and Sandy (Jeff Eck) Smith Samson of Hibbing; three grandchildren: Kristi Anne Smith Allred, Jordan Brandt, and Ryan Brandt; a great-granddaughter, Arianna Brandt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Murphy; by her parents; and by siblings Kenneth Sullivan, Arlene Gaige, and Robert J. Sullivan.
