Brian Patrick “BJ” Johnson

Brian P. Johnson, 66, longtime resident of Wayzata, MN, passed away May 25, 2024 in Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. He was born on March 29, 1958 to Raymond and Phyllis (Masterson) Johnson in Hibbing, MN. BJ, as he was affectionately known, was a sports fanatic, golfer, and a loving family man. BJ grew up in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Hibbing with his parents and siblings. He was a proud graduate of Hibbing High School, Class of 1976, and furthered his education at Hibbing Community College, St. Cloud State, and the University of Minnesota. In his professional life, BJ had a successful career as the shipping manager at Intercomp Company in Medina, MN for close to 30 years.
BJ’s passion for golf and love of sports brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course with friends and family. He is a former member of Burl Oaks Golf Club in Minnetrista, MN. When he wasn’t golfing, you could find him at various MN sporting events, whether the U of M hockey, or football games, or watching the Twins, Wild and Vikings. He enjoyed the occasional trip to Cantebury Park or a casino. BJ was a proud finisher of 3 Tour de Tonka bicycle runs. He was a proud supporter of his great nieces’ and nephews’ sports teams as well. He enjoyed following athletics throughout his lifetime. BJ was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, Hibbing, MN, and the Basilica of St. Mary, in Minneapolis, MN.
Brian will be dearly missed by his siblings, Kevin (Kelly) Johnson, Plymouth, MN, Kristen (Bryan) Vesel, Nashwauk, MN, and Scott (Monica) Johnson, Burnsville, MN. Nieces and nephews, Bryanne (William) Fredette Jr. and their children; Jesse (Michelle) Vesel and their children; Olivia Johnson; Dr. Jennifer (Troy) Hedtke and their children; and Mathew and Adam Flesche, as well as special friend Susie Marinaro, Keewatin, MN, along with numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Phyllis (Masterson) Johnson, and their parents.
Funeral services for Brian will be 11:00 am, Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Bill Skarich will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the 11:00am funeral Mass at the church on Saturday. In honor of Brian’s love for Minnesota sports, his family would like everyone to join them in wearing their favorite Minnesota teams attire to his service. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
