Calvin N. Severson

Calvin Nels Severson, age 79, of Hibbing, MN, passed away at The Waterview Woods Care Center in Eveleth, MN on March 3, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1945, in Warroad, MN, to Norman and Ida (Huotari) Severson.

He served in the Vietnam War and was a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division. He married Jane Axley on September 12, 1970, and together they raised their two daughters Susan and Anna. Calvin was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing and served as an Elder for many years. He also served on the town board in Lavell for many years. Calvin enjoyed the outdoors, working in his shop, arguing with the news reporters on the TV, hunting, fishing, driving with no music, and a good meal followed by a nap. 

Calvin is survived by his wife, Jane Severson; daughters, Susan (Jesse) Sixberry; grand-daughters, Lily and Dahlia Sixberry; siblings, Norma Chalberg, Joyce Wright, and Richard (Joyce) Severson; brother-in-law, David Jones. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathleen Severson, Linda Lang, Rosalie Jones, and Ruth Korsmeyer. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing, MN. Pastor Timothy Yearyean will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
