Carl C. “Carlo” Schafer
Carl C. Schafer, 83, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing.  Carl was born on June 24, 1929 to John and Frances (Zagar) Schafer in Hibbing, MN.  He was a graduate of the Hibbing High School.  Carl entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Geneva Draves on August 5, 1950 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kelly Lake.  He was employed as a foreman with Eveleth Taconite Company.  He was a former member of the Hibbing Moose.  Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, and especially loved following his grandkids sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva “Ginger” Schafer, Hibbing, son, Tom (Ann) Schafer, Hibbing, daughters, Shelly (Gene Gabardi) Schafer, Chisholm, MN., and Tina Uhrbom, Hibbing, sister, Angeline Huber, Chicago, IL., three grandchildren, Adam and Cole Schafer, and Laci Uhrbom, all of Hibbing, MN., and his nieces and nephews.  Carl was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances (Zagar) Schafer.
Funeral services for Carl will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Wednesday.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
