Carol Jeanette Novak
Carol J. Novak, 84, Hibbing, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. She was born in International Falls, MN on Oct. 19, 1930, to Walter and Grace Regal. Carol grew up in Big Falls, MN and graduated from Littlefork/Big Falls High School in 1948. She went on to complete her training as a registered nurse at St. Scholastica and Hibbing General Hospital. Carol then worked at Hibbing General Hospital as an RN for over 30 years. She and John G. Novak were united in marriage on Feb. 23, 1952, and they made their home in Hibbing. Carol was active in the Hibbing mentoring program and many charitable functions. She loved her children, grandsons and her cats. She enjoyed her flower gardens, was an excellent cook, and she loved spending time at her cabin on Five Island Lake. She and John spent winters at their retirement home in Mission, TX and they enjoyed many camping trips over the years. She was a member of Good Sam Club and the Side Lake Snowmobile Club. She was an active member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church as well as her winter church in Mission. Carol loved reading and word games, especially Scrabble.
She is survived by six children: John A. Novak, Hibbing, Janine (Paul) Carnel, West Linn, OR, Terry (Susan) Novak, Nevis, MN, Judy Novak, Hibbing, Tracey (Michael) Porcelli, Hibbing, and Stephanie (David) Hanson, St. Paul; six grandchildren: Andy Novak, Travis Porcelli, Evan Hanson, Dane Porcelli, William Hanson, and Cole Carnel; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1997; by her parents; and by a sister, Beryl Miller.
