Carolyn B. Backman

Carolyn B. Backman, age 98, of Hibbing passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing, MN. She was born on May 26, 1926, in Hibbing, MN to Charles and Kathryn (Klein) Rolando. 

Carolyn graduated from Hibbing High School in 1944. She enjoyed taking ceramic classes in her youth and even was a Majorette in the High School Band. She married her loving husband Carl W. Backman on October 4, 1952. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Formerly Immaculate Conception. Carolyn sang in the church choir for 25 years and served her community as a volunteer at the church. 

Carolyn is survived by her nieces & nephews, Marcus (Cheri) Rolando, Brenda (Eric) Rolando, Amy (Scott) Rolando, Rose (James) Campbell, Kathy (Dave Fronk) Kotula, Linda (Allan) Radika, Alan (Connie) Kotula, Tony (Ruth) Kotula, and Leonard David (Raisa) Kotula; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rolando. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl W. Backman (2004); siblings, Doreen Kotula, and Charles Rolando; nephews, Tim Rolando, Terry Rolando, and Donald Kotula. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, MN. Rev. Bill Skarich will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church on Saturday. The interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, MN.
