Carroll Fredrick Giesler
Carroll Fredrick Giesler, 82, Hibbing, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 in Hibbing. To all who knew him, we were blessed to call him husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend. Carroll was an avid outdoorsman who truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends while golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling, or just enjoying life together. Born in Aitkin in 1930, Carroll graduated from Aitkin High School and then proudly served his country in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class, Infantry, US Army. From there, Carroll attended the University of Minnesota and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. Carroll’s first job out of college took him to Slayton, MN where he met and married Rita Fischer, his loving spouse and companion for over 53 years. Together they had three children, Michael Giesler, Nancy (Bill) Schneider and Dennis (Lynda) Giesler. They resided in Slayton, Montevideo and eventually Hibbing in 1967, where he was the County Extension Director and Professor Emeritus for the Univ. of Minnesota. Carroll was a member of St. Leo’s and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Churches. He was active in the community, serving as President of the Hibbing Rotary Club, the Elks Lodge, the Mesaba Country Club and the local bowling leagues.
Carroll’s passion for life was always centered around his family. His priority and desire throughout life, and especially during retirement, was attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his grandchildren Alexander Giesler, Willie, Joey and AnnaRose Schneider and Jacob and Zachary Giesler; his siblings LeRoy (Michele) Giesler, Colette Giesler, Joanne (Tom) Corkle, Claire (Davy) Crockett and Mary (Loren Thacker) Giesler. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Siena Giesler, stepmother Elna Giesler, sister, Catherine Ann Giesler and grandson Nicholas Giesler. Carroll’s zest for life and love of others will leave lasting memories for all who knew him. Together in Christ, we feel blessed for the time we spent with Carroll and celebrate knowing he is with our Savior Jesus Christ.
