Charles G.H. Lindberg

Charles G.H. Lindberg, 88, Hibbing passed away peacefully Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm.  He was born February 21, 1928 at Bennett Location near Keewatin.  He was the son of Swedish immigrants Peter and Olga (Wikander) Lindberg.  He attended school in Keewatin and graduated from R.L. Downing High School.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 with the 199 th Combat Engineers.  He started work with M.A. Hanna Company in 1946 and retired from National Steel in 1987 after 41 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing, the “6 Pack Shack”, USW Local 2660 of Keewatin and the Silica Athletic Club. He loved playing his harmonica, 4-wheeling, and to hunt and fish at his beloved Hay Lake and enjoyed his many times at the hunting shack.

On June 23, 1956 he married Freida Taylor and they made their home in rural Hibbing.  They enjoyed many trips to Sweden to visit family and friends.

He is survived by  his wife Freida, son Charles A. (Lola) Lindberg, Chisholm, MN, daughter, Caren (Paul) Wiinanen, Maple Grove, MN, sisters, Astrid Swain, Minneapolis, MN, and Eleanor Hynan, Bloomington, MN, five granddaughters, Lisa Bushnell, Sheri Lindberg, Kristine Sarvela, Bobbi Wiinanen, and Rachel Wiinanen, five great-grandchildren, Zander, Reegan, Malina, Evie, and Lianna, two nephews, two nieces, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Olga Lindberg, brother, Bernhard Lindberg, sister, Signe Podominick, and in-laws, Holland and Ivy (Tyson) Taylor.

Funeral services for Charles will be 11:00am, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.   Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday.  Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
