Charles "Doc" Newman

Charles Newman better known as Doc, passed away Sunday January 1, 2023, at the Sandstone Hospital at the age of 80 due to health complications. Doc was born in 1942 in Grand Rapids MN to George and Norma Newman. Doc started working in the logging industry at 14 years old and then started driving semi-trucks hauling poplar at the age of 16. Most of Doc’s career was driving trucks hauling various things from poplar logs to beer. He worked for a short time at a foundry in the Twin Cities and worked construction jobs as well.
Doc married Judy in 1961 and had two sons and three daughters. He then married Jean in 1983 and had a daughter. He met his special friend Sandie in 1997, she has been by his side over the years. Doc enjoyed his time driving semi-trucks. He loved his morning coffee with his friends at the local café’s. He loved watching dirt track tracing, camping, and sitting by the campfire. He loved to go ice fishing. He loved spending time with his dogs Maggie (deceased) and Princess. He was always working in the garage and yard tinkering and building stuff. He enjoyed helping others. Doc always had a sense of humor, quick witted sarcasm, and a smart-ass response to most things. Doc was preceded in death by his parents George and Norma, his sisters Bernice and Veora, his brother Walt, and his grandson David. Doc is survived by his son Newt (Laurie) Newman, daughter Colleen (Troy) Nelson, daughter Jerilynn Vork, son David (Brenda) Newman, daughter Julie Hanson, and daughter Misty (Ty) Davey and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Phyllis, Gloria, Wayne, and Bruce. There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday January 29, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00pm at Sportsman’s Café in Hibbing MN.
