Charlotte “Pat” Walters
Charlotte “Pat” Walters, 68, Hibbing, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 in the U of M Hospital, Mpls., after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 29, 1945 in Jackson, MI to Dr. Lewis and Charlotte McQuillan. Pat had lived in Michigan before moving to the iron range in 1974. She married Steven C. Walters in 1976. She worked as a special education teacher throughout the range and had also been a substitute teacher for many districts, including Nashwauk-Keewatin and Chisholm. Pat was the founder of the Literacy and Learning Program in Hibbing which helped over 150 people obtain their GED’s and taught an innumerable amount of people to read and write. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. In her free time she enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially outdoors at the family property near Cook.
She is survived by husband Steven C. Walters, her children Theresa Walters of Hibbing, Steven P. (Leah) Walters of Hugo, MN and Rebecca Walters of Hibbing, her mother in law Jean Walters, brothers; Charles, Lewis Jr., Raymond (Diane), John (Denise), Thomas (Cathy), Richard (MaryAnne) and Dr. Mark McQuillan and her sister Elizabeth (Robert) Zaranack all of whom live in Michigan, 5 grandchildren; Paige, Ian, Ava, Aiden and David Walters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Visitation will be in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Friday, Oct. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.
