CLARENCE H. BAKKEN
Clarence H. Bakken (aka Sonny or Shorty), 87, Nashwauk, MN died Tuesday, September 30, 2014. He was born in Star Township (Goodridge), MN to Alvin and Barbara (Folkedahl) Bakken. Clarence grew up in the Goodridge area on a farm before he was united in marriage to Dola Dessellier on October 14, 1950. He served in the Army and was a proud member of the 503rd Airborne serving from 1950 to 1952. He moved to the Iron Range and worked 38 years in the mines at Butler and National Steel until his retirement in 1988.
He is survived by a son, Raymond (Myra) Bakken, of Pengilly; 2 daughters: Carilyn (Jeff) Johnson of Pengilly and Beverly Bakken of Brooklyn Park, MN; 4 grandchildren: Craig Bakken, Nicole (Dean) Zahratka, Christopher Johnson, and Michele (Justin) Motherway; 4 great-grandchildren: Haley, Derek, Cory and Caelan; a brother Marvin (Janyce) Bakken of Goodridge; 2 sisters: Janice (Laverne) Vraa of South Milwaukee, WI and Marian (Jerry) Wolf of Faribault; a sister-in-law Beverly Bakken of Hibbing and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dola; by his parents; brothers Stanley and Allen Bruce (infant) and sister Marlys.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 4, 2014 for one hour prior to the 11 am funeral service at Nashwauk Lutheran Church in Nashwauk. Interment will be in Nashwauk Cemetery.
