Corrine Laskey

Corrine Motherway Laskey, 94, of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Bay Village in Sarasota, FL.

Corrine was born on June 1, 1924, in her parents’ bed in Hibbing, Minnesota.  She was the 8th of 11 children born to Catherine (“Kate”) Webb Motherway and William Richard (Will) Motherway.  She was raised in Hibbing, graduating from Hibbing High School in 1942.  She is survived by 2 of her siblings; Mary Motherway, 99, of Hibbing, and Thomas Motherway, 90, of Minneapolis.  She was formerly married to, and predeceased by, Henry Adrian Laskey.

Corrine was an extremely smart, hardworking, single mom.  Prior to her retirement, Corrine was active in school, church and civic affairs.  For many years, she was a regular volunteer worker in cancer, heart, and arthritis drives.  She was an avid learner and reader, and a lover of the arts, baseball, and football.  She loved traveling to visit and explore new places.  She was an intellectual and a woman ahead of her time.

Corrine is survived by 2 sons; Henry Laskey (Rachel) of Stamford, CT; John Laskey (Sally) of Sarasota, FL; 4 daughters; Linda Thomas (Howie) of Dublin, NH; Susan Miller (Frederick) of Atlanta, GA; Karen Addis (Dennis) of Seneca, SC; and Marilyn Ellis (Bob) of Griffin, GA; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Corrine was an excellent writer and spent many years of her life compiling her memoirs.  But most of all, Corrine was a wonderful mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Those, she felt, were her main purpose and accomplishments of her life.  She loved each and every one with all her heart.  We will miss her very much, but all feel so blessed to have had her as part of our lives for such a long time.
