CURTIS DEAN FISCHER

December 29, 1935- June 21, 2016

Curt Fischer, 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN surrounded by loved ones.  He was born at home on December 29, 1935, to Clifford and Agnes (Henrickson) Fischer in Buffalo Lake, MN.  Curt lived and worked on the family farm, attended a one room school house, and graduated from Buffalo Lake High School.  He then entered the US Navy.  He proudly served and flew surveillance in a WV2 Super Constellation.  He was honorably discharged and returned to MN to marry his childhood sweetheart, Teddy Otto, on April 18, 1958.  Curt and Teddy moved to Bemidji, MN where Curt attended Bemidji State University.  Curt then went to work for the FAA as an Air Traffic Control Specialist and weather observer in Grand Forks, ND.  In 1962, he transferred to the Hibbing airport and the family moved to Hibbing.

Curt retired at the age of 51, and enjoyed every minute of his 29 year retirement.  Curt loved aviation and was an accomplished pilot. He also flew fire patrol for the DNR with Teddy often times by his side as observer.  Curt loved spending precious time with family, gardening, family vacations, hunting and fishing at the camp, 30 fishing trips to Highstone Lake in Canada, and hundreds to Cass Lake, bike rides and walks, teaching his kids and grandkids how to identify the different types of trees, and a true appreciation of nature.

Teddy and Curt had 4 children and they dedicated their lives and their love to them.  Family was always their first priority.

Curt is survived by their children: Torie (Fischer) Kutz, Lorie (Gary) Grangruth, and Travis Fischer, all of Hibbing MN; grandchildren, Ryan Kutz of Grand Forks, ND, Tara (Chad) Hokuf of Bemidji, MN, Jace (Lindsay) Grangruth of Bemidji, Gage Fischer (and his sister Jade Anderson), of Hibbing; great grandaughter Avery Hokuf of Bemidji; a brother, Bud (Betty) Fischer; two sisters: Faye Farrington and Susan (David) Hoff.

Curt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Teddy, 4 days before his passing, on June 17 th ; their son, Martin, in 1978; his parents; and his brother, Bruce Fischer.

Curt was a wise, kindhearted man who loved his family fiercely.  He was the first to help and always made life easier for everyone.  We are better people because of the lessons he taught us.  He will be missed beyond measure, eternally loved, and we will forever try to follow the path that he layed for us.... For love is what he always taught, and love is what we always learned.

Funeral services for both Curt and Teddy will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, June 24, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Kris Geer will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.  Curtis and Teddy will be laid to rest together in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
