Daisy M. Simone, 99, Nashwauk died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Hillcrest Parkside residence in Hibbing.  She was born on July 23, 1912 to James and Josephine (Luzzi) Chellico in Nashwauk, MN.  Daisy moved to New Jersey shortly after graduating from High School and became a seamstress.  There she met Joseph Simone and they united in the Sacrament of Marriage in 1934.  They then moved back to Nashwauk in 1938.  She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk, and the Swan Lake Country Club.  Daisy was a voracious reader.  She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing bridge and did a lot of traveling throughout her lifetime. At one point she had also been a contributing reporter on Nashwauk affairs for the Hibbing Daily Tribune.
She is survived by her four children, Rose (Gerald) Gustafson, Rosemount, MN., Carole Lindhorst, Nichols, NY., Joseph (Linda) Simone, Florence, MT., and Thomas Simone, Pengilly, MN., her four brothers and sisters, Minnie Fragnito, Missoula, MT., Angeline Tripp, Missoula, MT., and James Chellico, Las Vegas, NV, her sister-in-law, Bernice Chellico, Nashwauk, MN., her 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph Simone in 1994, sisters, Eva Chellico and Anne DeLuca-Brewer, and a brother, Louis Chellico.
Funeral services for Daisy will be held at 11:00am, Monday, March 26, 2012 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk.  The Rev. Fr. Dennis Hoffman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Sunday, March 25, 2012 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk.  The visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Monday.  Interment will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.  Memorials may be made to St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
