David John Pocrnich
David J. Pocrnich, 87, Hibbing, died Monday December 31, 2012, at Fairview University Medical Center—Mesabi, Hibbing. He was born in Hibbing on October 5, 1925, to John and Anna Pocrnich. David graduated from Hibbing High School and served in the US Army during World War II. He served in the Asiatic—Pacific Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart. On Sept. 27, 1952, David and Dorothy Smoltz were united in marriage at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. He had worked for Max Gray Construction and later for Ryan Construction, retiring as a construction superintendant. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW Post 8510, the DAV, and a 60+ year member of the Carpenters Union, Local 606.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Pocrnich, of Hibbing; a son, Joe (Tina) Pocrnich of Andover, MN; a sister, Olga Strgar of Chisholm, MN; two grandchildren, Alexia and Zoe Pocrnich of Andover; a brother-in-law, Thomas Sullivan, Sr. of Hibbing; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, William Pocrnich; his parents; and a sister, Florence Sullivan.
Visitation will be Saturday January 5, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 10--11 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM. Interment will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery.
