Dawn Lee Kangas

Dawn Lee Kangas, 63, of Hibbing and formerly Buhl, MN, passed away after battling health issues at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN, on January 6, 2023.  She was born in Minneapolis on December 24, 1960, to Theodore and Barbara (Robinson) Wilen.  Dawn grew up in Buhl and attended school there.  She went on to a bit of vo-tech schooling and eventually became a care provider for NHS of Chisholm for many years.  Dawn also worked at the Range Center for some time and could be found bartending at the Happy Trapper in Chisholm, MN.  She met and married her husband, David Kangas, as they started a family together.  Dawn was terrified of planes, but together they made a wonderful trip to Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada and had an amazing time.  She was a bit obsessed with clowns and was a huge Emmett Kelly fan as she loved her many collectables.  Dawn loved to cook and bake for her family, friends, and whoever else might be around.  She loved to play many different types of card games and was a bit of a card shark as she was always a desired partner.  Her family and friends were of utmost importance to her and she will be greatly missed by them and more.
Dawn is survived by her husband Dave, children Zoe (David Tonga) Kangas and Emmett (Ari Logan) Kangas, siblings Corinne (John) Fredrickson and Yvonne Rossi, one grandchild on the way and her cousins, nieces, nephews, and newly found son and daughter Adam and Jessica.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dean and Todd Wilen and special friend and "twisted sister" Kathy Guye.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 19th, 2024, at the Open Door Church in Hibbing.  Visitation will be held one hour prior at church starting at 10:00AM.  Pastor Brent Theien will officiate services and interment will take place later on.
