Dennis Collyard

Dennis Collyard age 73 of Hibbing passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Essentia-St. Mary’s in Duluth. He was born April 27, 1950, in Hibbing to Joseph and Martha (Smokrovich) Collyard. Dennis was a lifelong resident of Hibbing. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School. Following graduation, he attended school at the VO Tech in Hibbing and later in Twin Cities to further his education as an electrician. He was joined in marriage to Peggy Halvorson in 1970 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. After working briefly in the Twin Cities Dennis started work at Hibbing Taconite, retiring after 30 years. He was a member of the Lake Vermillion Sportsman’s Club, and was an avid outdoors man who loved fishing, hunting, and spending time up at the cabin on Vermillion. He could never out fish Peggy!  Following his retirement from the mines, Dennis loved walking in the woods north of Chisholm, he found solace there. Dennis was a perfectionist, he was a great maintenance man and could fix just about everything, once he fixed something it stayed fixed. Dennis enjoyed visiting and chatting, he always came back to the house with a story to tell even if it was just a simple trip to the gas station. He loved to eat good food and would often make Lupini beans and make biscotti. Dennis had very strong family values, he was always close to his siblings and loved his family unconditionally no matter what, he would always put others first and do the right thing. Dennis is survived by his wife, Peggy, children, Katie, Chris and Matt Collyard, siblings, David (Gloria) Collyard, Gary (Bobbi Nyland) Collyard, granddaughter, Jessica Collyard, 3 nieces, 4 nephews, numerous extended relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Martha, and sister Joette Collyard. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
