Dennis John James, 74, of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, at the Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis with family at his side. He was born in Hibbing on December 2, 1949, to Harvey and Mae (Tietgen) James. Dennis grew up in Hibbing and graduated from the Hibbing High School with the class of 1969. He went on to the vocational technical school and not long after, got a job with Hibbing Taconite as a mechanic and retired from there after over 30 years of a successful career. After retirement, Dennis wanted to stay busy and became a small engine mechanic at L&M Supply in Hibbing for 8 years. Dennis was united in marriage to Peggy Fremont in 1994 and they enjoyed nearly 30 years together as they joined families. Always a Ruger man, Dennis was a member of the rifle club and shooting range in town, made his own leather holsters and of course was an avid deer hunter with his crew up on Buck Lake. Dennis and Peggy enjoyed bowling together for many years and he was a huge sports fan whether it was watching a game or attending a grandkid's game as the biggest fan. He always wanted to know how everyone did and how the games went and what the scores were. He bonded with his grandkids whom he loved so dearly through collecting sports memorabilia and player cards. Dennis was also part of the Shifters Car Club and attended many car shows with Peggy in their '63 Mercury Meteor. He will be greatly missed.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, children Chris (Cristina) James, Tony (Mena) James, Shelly (Bob) Ruuhela, Lori (Jeff) Williams and Teresa (Damian) Hoey, grandkids Bella, Mosby, Mazie, Myles, Joshua, Jessica, Fayth, Jeremiah, Michael and Jude, four great grandchildren, multiple cousins and his Buck Lake hunting buddies.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Jeffrey Hoshal.
There will be a gathering of family and friends held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing.
