Deno Arabanos, 86, of Hibbing, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2018, at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing with family by his side.
Deno Arabanos was born on March 19, 1932 in Mavromati, Greece to John and Georgia Arabanos. He emigrated from Greece with his family after the Second World War as a boy and worked hard to master the language and help his family. As a young man he enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served our country for four years. After completing his service in the military he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad Company. He then had a long career in the Hibbing School District employed in many different areas including bus driver and stage manager at the Hibbing High School Auditorium and impacted many of these students in a positive way.
Deno was known to have a zest for life and was quite an avid dancer throughout his life. During his retirement years he enjoyed travel to his homeland, Greece and many years in sunny Florida. He was a master gardener who could transform any plot of land into a parklike setting. He also enjoyed cooking in his retired years, using many of his own garden vegetables.
He is survived by his children, John (Vicki) Arabanos of Minneapolis, MN, Dena (Don) Rosenberg of Charlotte, NC, and Meg Opacich of Appleton, WI., his sister Speedie Poplasky of Fort Collins, CO, and brother Louis (Irene) Arabanos of Minneapolis, MN., and many loving grandchildren
