Dessa (Vujnovich) Glumac
Dessa Glumac, 90, of Hibbing, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013.
She was born January 2, 1923 in Carson Lake, and was adopted by Milan and Frances Vujnovich. She grew up in Hibbing and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1939.
Dessa met the love of her life, George Glumac, when she was in high school and he was in flight training. George asked her to the Fireman’s Ball, and they continued to date while he was in U.S. Navy. George and Dessa were married on January 14, 1945, while George was on leave. They moved to Santa Rosa, CA while George served his country as a Naval Aviator in the Pacific during WWII. After the War, George and Dessa moved back to Minnesota to be close to their families, and raised their three children in Hibbing. George and Dessa enjoyed spending their summers at their cabin on Swan Lake and traveling across the country to attend George’s bombing squadron reunions. She was an active member of the Serbian Orthodox church in Chisholm, an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed sewing, hosting holiday dinners and antique shopping.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, and her son, George “Bucky” Glumac. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, George Glumac, daughter Carol McWilliams, son Robert Glumac, daughter-in-law Jann Glumac, nephew Gary (Donna) Simonson, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express its gratitude for the excellent care and compassion provided and shown to Dessa: the staff at Guardian Angels, Dr. Mark Wagner, Northstar Hospice staff and volunteers, Fairview Medical staff and the Hibbing Fire and Ambulance services.
Funeral: Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 28, at St. Basil of Ostrog Serbian Orthodox Church, Chisholm.
Visitation: Will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Basil of Ostrog Serbian Orthodox Church of Chisholm. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
