Dominic R. Cannata Sr.

Dominic R. Cannata, Sr., 97, Hibbing, died Wed. May 22, 2013, in Chisholm, MN.  He was born Sept. 27, 1915 in Hibbing, the son of Louis and Concetta Cannata.  Dominic was a lifelong resident of Hibbing and was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rose A. Giannone on April 6, 1940.  He was a devoted husband and was the primary caregiver to Rose during her lengthy illness.  He built a shrine to the Blessed Mother in honor of Rose.  Dominic had worked as an oil analyst for US Steel.  He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union and the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.   Dominic loved to cook for his family and in his free time he liked to garden or do woodworking. He enjoyed his cabin of over 40 years.  Later on he like to spend time conversing with neighbors, friends, and family in the screen house he built.
He is survived by his children Conchetta “Connie” (Les) Wiedenhoft of Gilbert, MN, Louis D. Cannata of Hibbing, and Dominic (Amy) Cannata Jr. of Woodstock, IL; 11 grandchildren:  Thomas (Michelle) Devereux of Carver, MN, Julie (Philip) Herbst of Pride Lake, MN, Rick (Dani) Cannata of Hibbing, Kris (Pat) Theisen of Hibbing, Jeff Cannata of Hibbing, Angela Cannata of Hibbing, Sara (Christopher) Johnstone of Minnetonka, MN, Rich (Tonja) Cannata of Duluth, MN, Andrew Cannata of Woodstock, IL, Jennifer (Chuck) Adkins of Hibbing, and Michelle Cannata of Woodstock, IL;  27 great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Robert (Marilyn) Perry of Grand Rapids, MN; a brother-in-law, Angelo Giannone of Antioch, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; by his parents; one brother and five sisters.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 24, 2013 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 1 pm until the funeral Mass.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home.
