Donald O. Hilligoss II
Donald O. Hilligoss II, 60, a Cohasset, MN resident for three years and former longtime resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 as a result of a motorcycle accident. Don had a joyful life that was much too short. He was deeply loved by his family and all three of his children looked up to him. He was always encouraging, positive, kind, and humble. Don was born in Hibbing to Donald and Dorothy (Wandrey) Hilligoss on November 30, 1956. He was owner of several auto dealerships including Ranger Chevrolet in Hibbing and Grand Rapids GM. He was active in the community, serving as a past president of both the Rotary Club and United Way, and he was active in his church, St. James Episcopal. He was an amazing skier, and often showed up all three of his children. He enjoyed staying active and participated in triathlons, over 30 marathons, and over 50 half marathons. Don was very caring and wanted only the best for his family. One of his favorite traditions was the annual Christmas Eve Sauna that ended with a refreshing plunge through the hole in the lake ice.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Cindy, children; Hillary (Ian) Ross, Golden Valley, MN, Sarah (Andrew) Hilligoss-Moe, Minneapolis, and Charlie Hilligoss (Grace Wepler) in Minneapolis, his parents, Donald and Dorothy Hilligoss, Hibbing, sisters, Molly Johnsrud, Hibbing, and Betsy (John) Marshall, Golden Valley, MN, 2 grandchildren, George and Ella Ross, a niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11:00 am. in St. James Episcopal Church, Hibbing, the Rev. Sally Maxwell will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Friday at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing and continue at 10:00 am., Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the following local charities: St. James Episcopal Church, The Hibbing Salvation Army, Range Regional Animal Shelter, The Hibbing Public Library, The Hibbing Rotary Club or any local charity of your choice. If you see a local need, please fill it in his honor and memory. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
