Donna Jean (Prince) Halvorson
Donna Jean Halvorson, 88, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Hibbing, MN on September 13, 2014.
Donna was born in Hibbing, MN, and lived in Hibbing her entire life. She was the oldest of four children born to Harold and Cecilia Prince. She graduated from Hibbing High School and was a graduate of the Minnesota School of Business. She married Robert Halvorson in August 1947. She was the loving mother of three children, Roberta “Bobbi” (Doug) Markus, Dwight Halvorson, and Gary Halvorson. Once her children reached middle and high school, she worked as an Office Manager for Meridan Engineering until she retired. Donna was a lifetime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. She volunteered at the church and at Hibbing General Hospital after her retirement.
Donna loved to play bridge and was “Chairman of the Board” of Hibbing’s elite Classy Ladies Club with Phyl, Gail, Ruth and Audrey. She loved to go out dancing with her husband, was an accomplished piano player, knew how to throw a memorable party, and loved to watch sports (The Vikes and the Twins) Donna had a candid wit, loved a good joke and had an infectious and unforgettable laugh. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Survivors include her children Roberta (Doug) Markus ,Vancouver, WA and Gary Halvorson, Andover, MN, daughter in law, Bridget Halvorson, Loomis, CA, siblings, Jerry Prince, Hibbing, Gail P. Javorina, Hibbing, and John Prince , Eau Claire, WI, five grandchildren and one great grandchild, many beloved nieces and nephews and her circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Halvorson in 1985 and her son, Dwight Halvorson in 2009.
A Memorial Service will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 am. With visitation starting at 10:00 am. There will be burial in Maple Hill Cemetery next to her husband Robert Halvorson.
