Dorothy Catherine Enich
Dorothy Catherine Enich, 94, Hibbing, died Mon. Dec. 31, 2018 at the Fairview Range Medical Center, Hibbing. Dorothy was born on Nov. 21, 1924 in Hibbing to Adolph and Alma Bonvicin. She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1942 and completed a two year business degree from Hibbing Junior College. She married the love of her life, George Enich on Aug. 21, 1948. She began working for the HL Stavn Co., which later became Stavn & Associates. She was a partner/owner at the company and later became the CEO. In later years, the company was known as Concraft Builders Inc. During her years in construction, she was involved in many projects on the Iron Range and in northern Minnesota, such as the Mesabi College in Virginia, the Hibbing Community College, the Greenhaven School, the Lee Building and many projects in the mining industry during the taconite era. Dorothy served as the first female on the board of directors for First Bank in Hibbing, which is now US Bank. She was active in Girl Scouts and received an award for her service. Dorothy was a member of the Tyrolean Club of Minnesota and the 50 Club. After her retirement in 1991, she volunteered at the Fairview Medical Center, now the Fairview Range Medical Center, for 21 years. She enjoyed many trips, especially her Canadian fishing trips. Staying active was very important to Dorothy. She was a member of the Hibbing Skating Club, the High School Walking Club, and Silver Sneakers. However, her favorite things to do involved her family, whom she loved dearly. Her grandchildren were always encouraged to do well. Christopher (Hortness) attending NDSU, Jennifer (Hortness) is a RN at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer (Enich) is attending the U of M Dental School and Molly (Enich) is a RN at the U of M Medical Center.
She is survived by her children Susan (Steven) Hortness of Little Falls, MN and Steve (Tonya) Enich of Side Lake, MN, a sister Helen Ahola of Minneapolis, MN and sister-in-law Rose Zubich of Hibbing, MN, her 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George and an infant brother Arthur.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 7 at 11am at the Hibbing Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Beau Braun will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to mass. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Fairview Range Home Care and Hospice in Dorothy’s memory.
