DOROTHY GENE (VIGER) FLEMING
Dorothy Gene (Viger) Fleming died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the age of 102.
She was born Dorothy Gene Viger October 31, 1913, in Boston, MA.
Dorothy came to Hibbing at the age of three and lived in Albany Location until graduating from Hibbing High School with the class of 1931. She married Clyde B. Fleming in 1934. Dorothy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, a 30 year member of St Joseph’s Funeral Choir, member and past president of Degree of Honor #201, life member and past president of VFW Auxiliary #1221. She was also active in the Community Senior Band at the memorial building and enjoyed playing in the Novelty Band. She
enjoyed membership in the Kitzville Community and Senior Club as well as the Side Lake Hobby Club. Dorothy worked as Night Auditor at the Androy Hotel, at Lerch Brothers Lab in Mahoning, was a driver for the Hibbing Daily Tribune and also worked at several restaurants and bars in and around Hibbing and Side Lake.
She is survived by four daughters: Carol Tancabel, Chisholm, MN, Kay (John) Case, Edina, MN, Lee Hunter, Gilbert, MN, and Coleen Fleming, Grand Junction, CO; three sons: Jack Fleming, Hibbing, Patrick (Christine) Fleming, Side Lake, and Michael Fleming, Side Lake. She had nineteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Clyde; parents Helen and Fred Viger; a brother, Freddie; and four sisters: Helen Lureen, Ruth Wiehe, Margaret Koslucher and Irene Olson; sons-in-law William Hunter and Louie Tancabel; and daughter-in-law Bernadine Fleming. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Greenview Assisted Living Facility staff for providing an excellent care environment for Dorothy over the past two years.
A funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament in Hibbing will be celebrated in Dorothy’s honor on Monday, July 18, 2016, at 11 AM, with recitation of the rosary at 10:30 AM. There will be no visitation.
