Dorothy Elizabeth Hoffman
Dorothy E. Hoffman, 91, Nashwauk passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Home and Comfort Assisted Living in Coleraine, MN. She was born on June 28, 1923 to John and Catherine (Marty) Gangl in Grey Eagle, MN. She entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Lloyd Hoffman on August 28, 1941. Dorothy and Lloyd moved to the area in 1952 from Grey Eagle, MN. Upon moving to Nashwauk, Dorothy worked for Helen Drazenovich at the Oreland Café for many years. Later she purchased and operated her own restaurant. Finally, she and her husband purchased and operated the Corner Bar in Nashwauk. Dorothy was famous for her fish fries, her gift of gab and her love for bingo. She loved her family dearly and loved to cook for them. She never let anyone go away hungry.
She is survived by her two children, Janice (James) Murden, Nashwauk, MN, and Carol (Allan) Hammond, Pengilly, MN, two siblings, Theresa Smith, Forest Lake, MN, and Donald Gangl, Circle Pines, MN, five grandchildren, Brad Hammond, Sherry Hammond, Michael Murden, Merle Murden, and Connie (Ira) Morse, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine (Marty) Gangl, her husband of 70 years, Lloyd Hoffman who passed away in 2012, two brothers, Harold and Norbert Gangl, and three sisters, Leona Hoffman, Clara Murphy, and Isabelle Gangl.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Seth Gogolin will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the 11:30 am service at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in Nashwauk Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing.
