Dorothy M. Levar

Dorothy M. Levar, 87, Leetonia, died Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Fairview Range Medical Center, Hibbing.  She was born in Hibbing on May 8, 1928, to Jack and Martha Raukar.  Dorothy graduated from Hibbing High School in 1946, and was united in marriage to Robert Levar on May 20, 1950.  In 1991, she retired with 22 years of service at ISD 701, many of them spent working as a matron at Hibbing High School.  Dorothy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing Moose Club, and VFW Post 8510 Ladies Auxiliary.  Dorothy was a proud resident of Leetonia for many years and she enjoyed her friends there.  She participated in local bowling leagues and traveled to many out of state tournaments.   She kept busy with her birthday club, casino trips, shopping, playing cards, and watching sports on TV.  Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Mark) Racek and Diane (Jerry) Maki, both of Hibbing; a sister, Joanne (Bill) Colwell, of Nashwauk; three grandchildren:  Robert Levar, Stacy (Erik) Determan, and Kara (Dustin) Pelt; by four great-grandchildren:  Nick Levar, Emily Determan, Avery Determan, and Ashlynn Determan; and by numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1964; by her parents; and by two brothers, Bill Raukar and Tom Raukar.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing, from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral Mass.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com .
