Dorothy K. O’Brien
Dorothy K. O’Brien, 92, Hibbing, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Guardian Angels Nursing Home in Hibbing. She was born in Hibbing on Sept. 5, 1923, to Bruno and Ailie (Saralampi) Korpi. Dorothy grew up in Melrude, MN and graduated from Cotton High School. During World War II, she worked for the Pentagon in Washington, DC. After the war, she married Robert O’Brien and they made their home in Owatonna, MN where she worked as a claims adjuster for Federated Insurance. They returned to Hibbing in the 1970’s, where Dorothy was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its women’s circle as well as a member of Hibbing Curling Club. She was a talented seamstress who also enjoyed her flower gardens.
She is survived by two sisters: Audrey Schweiger of Meadowlands, MN, and Marjory Desmarais of Matland, FL; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; by her parents; by a sister, Shirley Miller; and by brothers Stanley Korpi and Clarence Korpi.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, Hibbing, from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com .
