Douglas H. Lindahl
Douglas H. Lindahl, 83, Perch Lake, MN, died Thursday, July 4th 2013, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born Jan. 25, 1930 to Sigurd and Minnie Lindahl in Keewatin, MN. Doug graduated from the Keewatin Robert Downing High School in 1948. He was on winning football teams in high school and at the Hibbing Jr. College. Douglas also attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War and after his service he married his wife of 57 years, Marlene Sundquist. He had worked for the M.A. Hanna Mining Co., and retired from the National Steel Pellet Co. He was very active in the Hibbing Drum and Bugle Corps., and was a founder of the Hibbing Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the First Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Masonic Lodge. He served on the Aviation Days Committee. He was also the Town of French Supervisor for many years and the secretary for the Hanna Retirees Club in which a bench in his honor was placed at City Hall.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, sons; Gregory (Sue) Lindahl of Hibbing and Robert (Amy) Lindahl of Grand Rapids, MN, grandchildren; Ryan (Lynn) of Maplewood, MN and Matthew (Mindy) of Hoyt Lakes, MN, great grandchildren; Aubrey, Owen and Collenz, and many step great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Doreen Lindahl, brother-in-law Paul (Mary) Sundquist and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Magnuson, a brother Donald, an infant brother Marshall, his father and mother-in-law, John and Hazel Sundquist, and his brother-in-law, John Thomas Sundquist, and his beloved dogs B.J. and Deno.
Funeral services for Douglas will be held at 11:00am, Friday, July 19, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Jim Deters will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11:00am funeral service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angels for the compassionate care they gave Douglas over the past five years.
