Edward Raymond Curtis

Hibbing

Edward Raymond Curtis, age 61, of Hibbing, Minnesota, died peacefully at home on August 13, 2024, after an admirable and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 21, 1963, to Marlene Rose Lockhart and David Lee Curtis. He attended and received his diploma from Hibbing High School. On June 1, 1991, he married Janet Polcher, also of Hibbing. They welcomed their son Eric and enjoyed family life on the Iron Range, including time at the cabin and special trips to Canal Park in Duluth. Ed's interests included camping, fishing, model building, and collecting antiques. His favorite past time of all was being around his firepit with close friends and neighbors.


As a National Guardsman, Ed served for over 20 years. This included an eighteen month deployment in Iraq with the Red Bull Bravo Company 134th BSB. He retired from the military in 2009 with rank of SGT E5. Ed was employed locally by L&M Radiator from 2007-2023 as a delivery person. 



Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Janet Curtis of Hibbing; his son Eric (Emily Nelsen) of Plymouth, MN; his daughter Jennifer of Washington; his mother Marlene Lockhart of Nashwauk, MN; and sisters Vicky (Mike) DeMaris of Robbinsdale, MN, Peggy (Mike) Lavin of Globe, AZ, Debbie (John) Banyard of Golden Valley, MN, and Bonnie (Dennis) Leino of Hibbing; and a brother David (Michelle) Curtis of Side Lake, MN. Brothers- in- law include Jeff (Debbie) Polcher of Hibbing and John (Renee) Polcher of Rice, MN; his sister- in- law Sharon Polcher of Hibbing, and numerous extended family members.



Those preceding in death include his father David Lee Curtis, sister Susan Curtis, nephew Anthony Bertram, nieces Janet and Joni Banyard, and great-niece Skylar.


The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses in the Fairview Chemotherapy Unit along with Kim and Brenda. Special thanks also to Dr. Copeman, the Fairview Hospice nurses, and social worker Taylor.



Services for Ed include visitation on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at Dougherty's Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 10:00 until the funeral service at 11:00, also at Dougherty's. Military honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard prior to the committal at Maple Hill Cemetery. Luncheon will follow at the Serbian Hall in St. Michael's Orthodox Church.
