Edward George “Pappy” Gardeski
Edward G. “Pappy” Gardeski, 82, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living in Chisholm, MN. He was born on December 12, 1932 to Benjamin and Pauline (Romanski) Gardeski in Ely, MN. After attending school, Ed proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After the war, he later found employment with Cummins Diesel as a mechanic. Ed was a former member of the Hibbing Skating Club, a past president of Hibbing Ski Jumping Club, member of the Minnesota Goldwings Motorcycle Club, and was a scout leader for 17 years where he was recognized with the Silver Scout Award. His pastimes included; stock car racing, private pilot’s license, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid softball player.
He is survived by his children, Edward (Lois) Gardeski, Chaska, MN, Julie Gardeski, West St. Paul, MN, Mark (Michelle) Gardeski, Hibbing, and Jane (Dale) Brownlee, Hibbing, his brothers, Benjamin (Ann) Gardeski, Gary Gardeski, and Ken Gardeski, step-sister, Paula Woodward, six grandchildren, Christopher Gardeski, Erica (Brian) Holt, Forrest (Mara) Brownlee, Carver Brownlee, Sarah Gardeski, and Emily Gardeski, great-granddaughter, Lucy Mae Holt, and Fran Gardeski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Karen Gardeski and brother, Ralph Kishel.
Funeral services for Ed will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
