Eleanor A. Baldwin, 95, of Hibbing, MN began her heavenly journey on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2012 at the Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing and now peacefully rests, clothed with God’s spirit forever.
A native of Coleraine, MN, graduate of Greenway H.S. and Itasca Junior College, she was born July 17, 1917, the daughter of Perry C. Warner and Adele (Burgott) Warner. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry and German from John B. Stetson University in Deland, FL, class of 1939, member gamma sigma epsilon (chemistry honor society).
She worked in the editorial department of the American Ceramics Society in Columbus, OH and in a chemistry lab in Pittsburgh, PA. She married her college sweetheart, A. Richard (Dick) Baldwin, Ph.D., on Aug. 8, 1942 at the First Presbyterian Church in Coleraine.
Church and her relationship with God were an important part of her life: playing the organ for her childhood church and singing in choir and directing the bell choir at Grace-Trinity Community Church in Minneapolis.
While accompanying her husband on his business trips, she toured more than thirty countries including a trip to Antarctica. They lived in various cities: Pittsburgh, PA; Berwyn, IL; and Minneapolis, MN before moving to Hibbing to be near her children.
She was a gentle, thoughtful, loving person who enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing, knitting, writing poems, doing crossword puzzles, the woods surrounding her lake cabin, and sunsets. She helped her family with scouting, music, sports and managing the family rock and mineral shop. She expressed her love for others through her cooking, heart-felt hospitality, and sharing with others the joy of the everyday beauty she found in God’s world around her.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter Louise, Seattle, WA; sons Chris (Dana), Lancaster, SC; Larry (Jan), Hibbing, MN; grandchildren Andy, Alexi and Nicole; nieces Gail (Robert) Childs and Cindy Turner.
