Elizabeth “Betty” J. Katalinich, 78, Pengilly, MN, died Sat., Aug. 3, 2013 surrounded by her family, in the Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. She was born Feb. 17, 1935 in Nashwauk to Laudomar and Elizabeth Zakrajsek. She graduated from Nashwauk High School and then married Robert Katalinich on Aug. 9, 1958. She and Robert had lived in Nashwauk for many years before moving to Pengilly in the70’s. She worked for the M.A. Hanna Mining Co. as a secretary before dedicating her life to her family. She was an active member of both St. Cecilia’s and St. Kevin’s Catholic Churches. Betty taught her family kindness, love, patience and generosity in her everyday living.
She is survived by her husband Robert, her children; Thomas (Lisa) Katalinich of Victoria, MN, Paul (Lori Moe) Katalinich of Cloquet, MN and Joni (Nicholas) Schuessler of Eden Prairie, MN, her brothers Robert Zakrajsek in California and Kenneth (Georgann) Zakrajsek of Hibbing along with 9 grandchildren; Lauren and Maggie Katalinich, Allison and Emily Schuessler and Trenton, Derrick, Bryce, Naomi and Tanya Moe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Nashwauk. The Rev. Dennis Hoffman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be in the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
