Elizabeth A. Sweeney

Elizabeth A. Sweeney, 78, Nashwauk, died Monday, April 13, 2015 in St. Mary’s Essentia Health Care in Duluth, MN. She was born June 7, 1936 in Nashwauk, the daughter of Fred and Mary Legueri. Elizabeth married John J. Sweeney and dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed her times with family and friends and was an active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church; she could often be seen caring for and lighting the candles in the church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Nashwauk.

She is survived by her 3 children: John (Mary Kay) Sweeney of Maple Grove, MN, Ken (Leesa) Sweeney of Horace, ND and Patti Sweeney of Princeton, MN; A brother George (Alice) Legueri of Cloquet, MN; a sister Carmen (Ray) Lakso of Two Harbors, MN; 9 grandchildren: Nicole Harder, Sean Sweeney, Briana White, Gregory Egerdahl, Christina Darlow, Michael Egerdahl, Brittni Sweeney, Joshua Neary and Kaely Neary and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, a daughter Jane Egerdahl, a sister Josephine Paakkonen and brothers: Benny, Angelo and Louis “Slugger” Legueri.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Friday, April 17, 2015 in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Nashwauk. The Rev. Seth Gogolin will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be in the church Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery.
